Our Mission is to prepare a qualified workforce to meet the current and emerging needs of business and industry.

Michigan Works! Southwest is part of the statewide Michigan Works! system established to provide high-quality employment and training services for employers, workers and jobseekers.

Michigan Works! Southwest includes Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties.

The Michigan Works! system is made up of 24 local Michigan Works! Agencies.

Each is governed locally by a partnership between their Workforce Development Board (WDB) and Locally Elected Officials (LEOs).  The WDB members represent the private sector as well as education, economic development, human services, organized labor, and community-based organizations linked to workforce development.

The guiding principles for the Michigan Works! System are:

  • Universal access for Employers and Job seekers
  • Easy customer access
  • Service Delivery, driven by local area needs as identified through private sector relationships
  • Integration of services across agencies and programs for maximum utilization of local resources
  • Accountability focused on results and documented by performance measures

Each of the local Michigan Works! Agencies oversees the federal and state funded workforce development services for their geographic area with an emphasis on meeting the unique needs of local industries and employers.
